WHAT WE DO

Services

Crux Entertainment provides end-to-end archival, clearance, and legal services for film, television, commercial, and digital content. All services are available individually or as a full-wrap engagement.

01

Archival Research & Licensing

Comprehensive sourcing, vetting, and licensing of historical footage, photographs, music, documents, and other archival materials across all genres and subject areas. Crux maintains relationships with major footage houses, news archives, music publishers, estates, and private collections — with the experience to find material others can't, and the clearance knowledge to license it right the first time.

Deliverables include: archival research, footage sourcing, licensing negotiations, sync and master clearances, stills clearances, and archive-to-delivery management.

02

Rights & Clearances

Full clearance production services from pre-production through final delivery. Crux manages all rights and clearance workflows to produce E&O-ready packages that meet network, studio, and distributor requirements — on time and without costly holdbacks.

Deliverables include: talent and interview releases, location agreements, music clearances, life rights, name and likeness clearances, trademark and brand clearances, clearance logs, and E&O documentation packages.

03

Legal Services

Crux partners directly with an entertainment attorney to provide integrated legal services alongside clearance — so productions get attorney-reviewed clearance opinions, contract support, and legal wrap under a single engagement.

Services include: legal review and opinion letters, contract drafting and negotiation, chain-of-title review, fair use analysis, defamation review, and full legal wrap for delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an archival producer do?

An archival producer finds, licenses, and clears every piece of third-party material in a production — footage, photos, music, and documents — and delivers it cleared, paid for, and documented well enough to pass an E&O insurance review. On a documentary that can mean hundreds of assets, each with its own owner and its own license terms.

What is in an E&O clearance package?

An E&O-ready package is the full paper trail your insurer and distributor require: licenses for every archival asset, talent and interview releases, location agreements, music sync and master clearances, name, likeness and trademark clearances, and a clearance log that ties it all together. Crux delivers it complete, so there are no holdbacks at delivery.

Do you handle music clearance?

Yes. Crux handles both sides of music — the sync license from the publisher and the master license from the label or owner — along with needle-drop, score, and any rights tied to performers. Music is where clearance gets expensive and slow, so it is handled early.

How does the legal wrap work?

Crux works in direct partnership with an entertainment attorney, so clearance and legal happen under one engagement. That covers attorney-reviewed clearance opinions, fair use reviews, chain-of-title and defamation review, and the final legal wrap for delivery — without the coordination overhead of hiring a clearance supervisor and a separate law firm.

How much does clearance cost?

It depends on the volume and type of material — a music-forward archival doc is a different job from a commercial. Crux scopes each project up front and, because clearance and legal run under one engagement, the total is typically well below hiring a clearance supervisor and a law firm separately. Send the project and you get a real number, not a guess.
